What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Firstly, we exported a rough cut of our short film and showed it to a fellow Media group. As they would know what mistakes to looks for it was our most critical audience.
From the video we found that our variety of shot sizes was appreciated as it made the film look of good quality. As expected we were made aware of the bad sound levels in various scenes, which we then went on to alter and fix for the most part. Lastly, a continuity error was noticed, which we soon fixed by editing the scene.

Secondly, after the film was finished I showed Toast to a group of 5 girls. I chose the first audience to be 5 girls as I felt they were our main target audience, as they would have felt closest to the story. Before watching, I showed them both my review and poster, along with two audience feedback questionnaires. Then another audience feedback questionnaire for when the film was finished. (Click questionnaire images to enlarge).

Results from the questionnaires:
Toast Film questionnaire.
1.Did you feel as though you could relate to any characters within “Toast“?
From this question the reactions that I received was that 4 out of 5 of the girls could relate to Amelia's character. The fifth girl, when asked why she didn't, explained that she didn't feel as though sixth form was as stressful as Toast made it out to be.

2. When watching “Toast” Did you feel as though you understood the emotions the central character was going through?
From this question I found that Amelia's feelings were very clear as all girls felt they could understand how she was feeling and why she is the way she is.

3. Did the film appear realistic?
From this I had a unanimous reply that the film was realistic. Upon asking why, the females replied that being set in a school environment added to the authenticity of the storyline.

4. From watching “Toast” would you watch another film made by the same production team?
The girls said that as the film felt realistic and well thought out for a film made by beginners, it shows promise for the future.

5. Did you find the end itself of “Toast” to be appropriate?
In reply to this question, we found that some wanted the ending to be more dramatic.

In conclusion, the films questionnaire itself, showed that the film was a success for the most part.

Toast Postcard  Questionnaire:
1. From first appearances, in few words, from this poster, what would you think “Toast” is about?
After showing my finalised poster, the girls all decided that the film must be about a girl struggling with applying to university. They got this impression from her tear stained face and the UCAS backdrop. However, the girls were very confused by the title, making them want to see the film that bit more.

2. Would the mystery of the title and image encourage you to watch “Toast”? In order to understand the story and title? As answered above, the girls all agreed they wanted to know how Toast linked in with struggling with school work.

3. Do you think the postcard should be more or less colourful?
The girls were unanimous that the postcard should be more colourful. This would have attracted more attention to it.

4. Do you like the idea of having a postcard sized poster which can be kept rather than a full sized poster?
The idea of the postcard sized poster was for the most part appreciated as they liked to be able to keep it.

5. Would you like the postcard to be more clear about what the film is about?
For this question the majority answer was No, as the lack of information created a sense of mystery around the film.

In conclusion, my questionnaire has found that my postcard may be slightly dull, looking for more colour. However, the postcard sized poster was successful and the mystery of the story was appealing.

Film review Questionnaire Results:

1. Did you find the review clear and understandable?
All answers were Yes, my aim for my review was to be very clear so this was the exact response I was looking for.

2. Did you find the review aesthetically pleasing?
There was mixed answers here, as some argued that review was slightly plain. However, to stick to the Empire Review page template, I couldn't add anything to make it seem more 'interesting'.

3. From the review would you want to watch “Toast”?
From this question I found that though it encouraged the girls to watch Toast, they didn't feel an urgency to see it.

In conclusion, from this questionnaire, I found that my review could use some improving to make it more livelier to pull more readers in.
